Who we are and why we're here

We are the grandparents, parents, and community members that are working to ensure a safe school is built in Kenna, West Virginia. This effort was started about five years ago when the Jackson County Board of Education purchased property in an industrial park with plans to build a new Kenna Elementary School. Well, five years later, here we are and the State SBA (School Building Authority) has approved the Kenna Ridge "Business" Park as the approved site for a new Kenna Elementary. We believe the current Rt. 21 site is a LOT safer and hope to educate parents, the Jackson County School Board, and our elected officials on why we think so. We hope you will take a look around, read some of the research that member Maxine Landfried has done, and make up your own mind. IS KENNA RIDGE SOMEWHERE YOU WOULD WANT YOUR KIDS TO GO TO SCHOOL??

It began with an air of controversy

Notes from the 2006 School Baord meeting indicate that the purchase of Kenna Ridge was a close vote....

On November 10, 2006, in a special meeting held three nights after the school bond issue was defeated 75% /25%, the Jackson County Board of Education voted 3-2 to purchase six acres @ $80,000 per acre in the Kenna Ridge Business Park to relocate Kenna Elementary School. The developer was donating an additional six acres of level land. At that time he donated an additional six acres of unusable hillside.

So after the voters spoke with their vote saying they didn't want a school built at Kenna Ridge Business Park, the Jackson County School Board voted to buy the land anyway....  Hmmmm....  And they couldn't even get a unanimous vote...  Maybe that was an indication that this wasn't the best decision to make...
